The beginning position in the game of backgammon demands that you know the details regarding the opening rolls, and how you should handle it. Learning to be a strong starter will benifit any player at various casino games.

You may be new at the game of backgammon, but learning the opening rolls will gain you experience and knowledge that you'll need. After learning opening rolls, you can experiment with many alternative opening rolls for more advantageous play.

Here are some important concepts to bear in mind as you play internet backgammon and begin an opening roll:

* There are two major objectives of the game: (1) Try to trap your opponent behind a blockade, and (2) Escape with your two runners, before your opponent can trap them, instead. After realizing these two objectives, focus on them.

* It is important to make points and make home-board points. The home-board point will make it hard for the other player to re-enter after you hit him.

* Remember that it matters what you do with your points in order. However, the most important value points are your 4 and 5 points, along with the bar point that is close to first.

* You can bring in spare checkers, or a builder, for you to bear upon the points, to improve your opportunity to make key points.

* Before your opponent closes in from any of their points from the home-board, you must have split your checkers, back at the start of the game.

* It is not as important to play safe and leave no blots, than to have a flexible position, and to create builders. At an early point in the game, be ready to take a chance, if it will improve the prospect of having a reasonable position.

* Keep in mind that the advanced anchor is a very important asset in the game. With advanced anchoring the player can afford to do more adventurous maneuvers, and, at the same time, to create difficulties for the other player as his checkers become close to home.

* 5 point is important - fight for it. If the other player slots on his 5 point, (if you can) you hit. If the other player brings on their checker to your 5 point, don't let their checker remain on that position - do something.

All backgammon players will think the same about opening with a good roll, but it is the understanding that is important, especially understanding the reason for the opening roll. Smart players will be able to project that kind of understanding on other casino games like poker, blackjack or slot machines because having a good opening roll can be crucial in most cases.
